Red-tailed Hawk - "Bonnie Beau" Bonnie came to us after being found along Highway 54 near Kingman 2 years ago. She was severely dehydrated and emaciated. She was a juvenile and a lot of times juvenile Red-tails are not very good hunters and die. We got her back up to a good healthy weight and during this time she would cry out whenever she would see us. We sent her to a falconer to train her to hunt on her own. She would only follow the Falconer and not try to catch anything on her own. We then applied to have her as an educational bird after explaining this to Fish and Wildlife. She has been a very gentle bird and has never tried to hurt any of us with her talons. Red-tails are Kansas's most common Hawk. |
