Harris Hawk - "Machu" Machu came to us 2 years from a falconer in New York that was wanting to trade us for a Ferruginous Hawk we had at that time. Harris Hawks are becoming rare. They are from the Desert Southwest, but mainly now in southwest Texas, Arizona, Nevada and New Mexico. They are one of the only raptors that hunt in packs like wolves. They also will stand on each others shoulders, after the first one finds a spot on a cactus where there are no thorns. Machu is a very vocal bird and will let out a loud scream when he's ready to eat, upset or wanting to protect his food. |
