Well, it has been a few days since I wrote about WaSu and his training. I have been getting things ready for the winter and making sure the birds are feed well with this cold and bringing any of them inside if necessary. I have kept WaSu tethered to his bow perch for 4 days. He has plenty of water and when I go in it is to feed him while he is on the glove. It has worked. I take what ever food I am giving him and push it into my glove and roll the glove up against his legs. He is so intent on getting the food that he steps on the glove without realizing it. I say the command "WaSu Up." As he steps up on the glove I expose the food and let him have it. I then will stand up with him on the glove as he is eating. When he is done he looks around and wonders how he got up there. He will fly off, but by then I have gotten hold of the Jesse's, and he has been getting right back up. I feel he finally likes it better standing on the glove than swinging upside down. I took off his leash Monday so that he could go to the back of the pen during this cold weather away from the wind. Today he was waiting on his bow perch so I knew he was ready for dinner. I went into his pen and he flew down to the door at my feet! I went to his perch and called him over. he flew to the perch and turned and faced me watching the glove looking for the food. Being he wasn't tethered His feet and those Talons were free to go and do what they wanted to. He was so intent on the glove that I felt very at ease with him. I held the glove about 2 feet away from the perch. he looked and than without hesitation jumped to my glove! The trust has started! I lifted him up as he ate and walked towards his high perch and touched the back of his legs to it. I gave him the command "WaSu Off" he jumped on the perch and continued to eat his food. I walked out of the pen saying "Good Boy WaSu" "Good Boy." My Christmas present came early! There is still a lot of work to do. Crate training is going to be a real treat! I want to thank each of you for allowing me to share my training days with WaSu. It really was great to sit and write about it. Everyone have a Merry Christmas, and a safe and New Year!
