Another baby needs rescued! We received a frantic call on Monday July 19th from a lady in Conway Springs that had a baby barn Owl with a compound fracture of its leg. We drove to the Vet Office in Conway Springs and saw that the little Owl was only about 4 weeks old. The bone had broken the skin and was still bleeding. We  took the little Owl to the Goddard Vet Clinic and we cleaned the wound and set the leg as best we could and put on a splint made of popcicle sticks. The little owl is eating well and doesn't seem to mind the leg being wrapped. At the age he is, he doesn't use the legs much as he lays in the nesting position most of the time. We went back to the vet today and removed the splint and wraps and it appears that it is healing well. we put on fresh bandages and we hope to remove them permanantly in about 10 days. With the break near the growth plate, we hope that the tendons will not be comprimised. keep your fingers crossed.

We have been getting great response from the website. We had 3 family Tours this week. On the 30th we are going to be doing story hour at the Clearwater Library from 10:30 to 11:30 AM. On Monday August 2nd we are going to Winfield to the Cowley County Fair and doing 3 educational programs. We booked Pleasant Valley Church for a Tour on the 4th of August. Kids Club of Rose Hill will be coming out on the 10th of August and on the 18th we will be doing a presentation for the Kingman Lions Club. We have been contacted by Cabela's of Sidney, Nebraska and Kansas City to do educational Programs. We currently are negotiating number of progams, dates and fees.

On Friday the 30th and Saturday the 31st, WeStar Energy will be coming out to put on the roof to our Flight Pen and help put up the sides. We are looking for Volunteers to help stain the 1 X 12's prior to putting them up. If you would like to help, please call at 393-0710. We have changed our Center's main phone number to 540-0003. This so we do not have to dial long distance or when people call in they do not have to dial long distance. Thanks for visiting our site and look for new news next week.

Sincerely,
