Class Visit Testimonials

A day with our birds can provide a variety of experiences for each individual.

We have received many kind letters from those whom we have visited. We will let their words tell you more about the educational experience available through Eagle Valley Raptor Center.

Mr. Ken Lockwood presented his program for the Kindergarten through eighth grade students at Andale Elementary-Middle School. The "Bird of Prey" program was presented in such a way that it kept the interest of all age levels. Mr. Lockwood was able to command exceptional behavior from the students by explaining his expectations and behavior around the birds before he brought his birds before the crowd of students. Every student benefited from the well-organized format and information that was shared. I believe this was one of the best assemblies made available to the students at Andale Elementary-Middle School. It would be an asset to have the program available to more students.

Sincerely.

On Saturday, March 15, 2003, Ken and Susan Lockwood presented Masters of the Sky in the Kemper Creative Learning Studio at Exploration Place. We are still receiving unsolicited compliments and positive comments from our visitors concerning their presentation.

The program, subtitled on their brochure as "A Breathtaking Flight into Knowledge" was exactly that! Audiences were spell bound as birds flew gracefully from one trainer to the other as if proud to be showing off. The habits and needs of the birds were presented by Ken and Susan with great affection and obvious concern for these magnificent animals. All through the show information was being given by Ken and Susan about the birds as well as the connection between these natural fliers and the machines designed to make human flight a reality.

We intend to book repeat performances of Masters of the Sky in the Fall as we head for the 100th anniversary of powered flight. It is no exaggeration to say this will be due to "popular demand" by our visitors.

Sincerely,

Steve Kimball, Coordinator

I recently had the opportunity to witness a "Birds of Prey" program presented to the Wichita Postal Customer Council by Ken and Susan Lockwood. The program's educational value was second to none. The entire group of postal customers and mailers went away with a better understanding and were awed by these magnificent birds.

The Lockwood's program was presented in a very relaxed but professional manner. Everyone commented on how evident it was that Ken and Susan truly love the birds in their care. This was also confirmed by the calmness of the birds during the program.

The citizens of Kansas are most fortunate to have an attraction of this caliber in our state. Everyone looks forward to this educational program expanding to bring more information and understanding of our precious wildlife, especially in the case of our postal and national symbol, the great American Bald Eagle.

I applaud the Lockwoods for their sincere love, dedication and willingness to share their passion for these beautiful creatures.

Sincerely,

Dear Ken and Susan:

On behalf of the College of Veterinary Medicine at Kansas State University, thanks for presenting such a high quality bird-of-prey program for our students, staff, and faculty. The program was both educational and entertaining, and I'm sure it gave a greater appreciation to all of us for wildlife. I heard numerous fine compliments on your "Masters of the Sky" presentation from the attendees.

As you know, I have worked with wildlife, including endangered species, for many years and found your program, you style of presentation, the scientific content, and the "conservation" message to be one of the best programs I've seen. Congratulations!

Thanks again and best wishes for continuing success in your conservation education efforts!

On June 26, 2003 Ken Lockwood ... visited Via Christi Regional Medical Center to do a presentation for the children of the pediatric ward and for the child development center. Ken was very accommodating to our policies and procedures. His Masters of the Sky presentation was excellent. He presented his information in an age appropriate manner so that all of the children could relate. He was interactive with the children and gave them a once in a life time experience. It meant so much to have the owls as special visitors to the children in the hospital as well as the day care. The staff expressed much appreciation as well. The Masters of the Sky program was educational, interesting, and entertaining.

Sincerely,

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Lockwood:

Thank you for the wonderful presentation that you did on the birds of prey at the Central Library on Tuesday, June 10, 2003. Two hundred and sixty children and adults attended. Of the adults surveyed, 83 percent rated the program as excellent while the remaining 17 percent rated it as very good. Their comments, after the conclusion of the program, ranged from "Loved it!!!" to "Very educational and intriguing to both kids and adults."

I could not say it any better. It was a pleasure to work with both of you. As a children's librarian and a program planner for the Wichita Public Library system, I admired and appreciated many things about you including your knowledge of the subject matter, obvious rapport with children, and especially, your professionalism. It was evident when you visited the Central Library prior to the program to ensure that the space met your needs. It was also evident when you arrived an hour and a half before the program was schedule to start in order to set up and allow the live specimens that you brought to grow accustomed to the new environment.

Again, thank you, and we will definitely be contacting you in the future. As our customers' comments indicate, they would be dissatisfied with us if we did not.

Sincerely,

Tracie Partridge

Dear Ken and Susan,

Thank you so much for taking the time to come to McConnell AFB to share your Birds of Prey program with our military families. Both times you have visited, we've had great turnouts. The number in the attendance is a direct reflection of the excitement and interest that your program brings to our audience. The program this past Saturday had over 100 children and adults in attendance!

Since the show I've heard many compliments about how much the audience enjoyed it. The kids thought seeing the birds of prey in free flight were awesome and the parents loved it as well! We felt, as did the kids and adults in attendance, that the program was conducted in a safe and professional manner. We are very pleased when we can bring in an interesting and educationally sound performance. We feel very fortunate to have found you and look forward to working with you again in the future. Thanks again for all you do for us and for our feathered friends.

Sincerely,

Darla Cooper

It is Mr. Lockwood's intention to include a strong educational component in all of his programs, which of course requires that he possess an excellent working knowledge of the animals under his care, and understands and can interpret the types of behaviors that he so superbly brings out in his animals. He has been successful in that regard, and is always eager to answer questions about his birds of prey and other animals.
